In the company of angels 7-9 PM | FSU MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS
Seven Days of Opening Nights begins its 12th season in the company of angels with a free opening reception at FSU's Museum of Fine Arts.
At the turn of the 20th century, Tiffany windows were in great demand. Given that an estimated 50 percent of Tiffany's church windows have since been lost, the rediscovery of this series of seven marvelous pieces is significant. The windows feature angels from the Book of Revelation representing the seven churches of Asia. Created in 1902 for a Swedenborgian church in Cincinnati, the windows were crated when the church was razed in 1964 for highway construction, and then spent almost 40 years in parishioners' garages and basements. In Company with Angels, a nonprofit organization, was formed to preserve and exhibit the windows.
The companion exhibition for the Tiffany windows is drawn from the collections of MoFA and the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, featuring the wonderful work of Benedetto Gennari II (Italian, 1633-1715) as well as other prints and drawings with angelic presences.
Faculty artists make cameo appearances with new works from their studios. In celebration of the opening of Seven Days, MoFA has been loaned a selection of never predictable and invariably spirited art works in a wide range of media.
